No matter how much of a purist you may be the fact is that our students will spend  much more of their time speaking than they will writing.

Description

Teaching speaking skills (oracy) has never been more important for our students. No matter how much we would like them to be writing everything, their digital world demands a different skill set.

They are always going to have to speak and teaching oracy with the same attention to detail that we apply to teaching literacy is crucial.

No matter how much of a purist you may be the fact is that our students will spend  much more of their time speaking than they will writing.

This is especially the case with new digital technologies. Podcasts, vlogs and other videos are more likely to be their future communication forms.

Many modern writing forms like emails and blogs actually follow the conventions and patterns of spoken English rather that those of written English.

Because there is no grammar check on spoken English it is important that students learn the correct forms.

Our students will have conversations with people all over the world and will need to be fluent in their use of spoken English.
